List of Anime and Manga Terms
This is a list of anime and manga terms I happen to come across often, and I decided to put up a list with definitions just in case anyone was having a hard time with "anime lingo". I'll try to update this list as I encounter/remember more words. You can use Ctrl+F to find any word you're looking for in particular, though you won't need that function until much later (after I've added many more terms).

A
Anime (アニメ) - A type of animation that originated in Japan. It has a unique style that sets it apart from other types of animation. Many animes are adaptions of mangas, light novels, and/or visual novels.
B
Bishōjo or Bishoujo (美少女) - A girl who is usually considered young and pretty, usually from junior high school to high school age. Most young girls in anime are bishōjo, and "bishōjo games" refer to most "harem games" and visual novels (as well as dating sims) with such characters in it.
Bishōnen or Bishounen (美少年) - A boy or man whose beauty transcends the boundary of gender or sexual orientation. Bishōnen or typically viewed as androgynous.
Buruma or Bloomer (ブルマー) - A type of women's undergarment. In Japan, this usually refers to a type of gym shorts typically worn by girls. It's often referenced to in anime and manga, due to being a common clothing fetish.
E
Ero (エロ) - Refers to anything "perverted" or "erotic" (hence the name) in nature. This includes pornography, fan service, and ecchi, among others. "Ero" is not a genre, but merely an adjective used to describe anything with "erotic" content.
Eroge or Erogē (エロゲー) - A type of Japanese video or computer game that features erotic content (usually in anime-style artwork). The name is a portmanteau of the Japanese pronounciation of "erotic game". These are often called "H-Games", and include many visual novels and dating sims.
Ecchi (エッチ) - A Japanese term meaning "lewd" or "lascivious". The term comes from the letter H, which can be used to refer to Hentai. Ecchi is considered the "borderline" between Hentai and non-Hentai, sometimes depicting nudity, but the story does not center on the sexual acts themselves.
H
Hentai[/u] (変態) - A genre that refers to pornographic animation, usually with the plot focusing on the explicit acts. There is much debate where "Hentai" and "Non-Hentai" meet.
J
Josei[/u] (女性) - A type of manga that focuses on female young adults and late teenagers. This type of manga often centers on the everyday life of a woman and has a more realistic approach to life and love than shōjo manga.
M
Manga (漫画) - A type of comic originating in Japan that usually has a distinct art style that separates it from American or European comics. The panels are generally read in a right-to-left fashion, following the traditional Japanese page direction. Many mangas (but not most) are adapted into animes.
S
Seinen (青年) - A type of manga that is usually aimed at young adults (18-30, though people will read this up too their 40s) and typically has a more realistic touch than shōnen manga. It can have much violence, and also includes pornography.
Shōnen or Shounen (少年) - A type of manga that is usually aimed at male children (10-18). Manga in this category usually have a male protagonist, a humorous plot, and attractive females (and fan service is common).
Shōjo or Shoujo (少女) - A type of manga that is usually aimed at female children (10-18). Mangas in this category are characterized by their focus on relationships and emotions. Love in shōjo manga is often considered to be idealistic and more unrealistic than Josei manga.

Tsundere (ツンデレ) - A character archetype that is usually someone who is hostile and seemingly hateful most of the time, but is actually very kind and uses the hostility as a front to hide their love for a character. The term comes from the words "tsuntsun", meaning "aloof, pointed" and "deredere", meaning "loving, exhausted".

Yandere (ヤンデレ) - A character archetype that is usually someone who is kind and loving most of the time, but become deranged/psychotic at some point. The term comes from the words "yaderu", meaning "to be sick", and "deredere", meaning "loving, exhausted".
